Blown-In Cellulose Insulation
Blown-in cellulose insulation fills every gap between joists and trusses, so the top floor of a Kanata house keeps its heat. It is the material we quote most often for attic top-ups.
View Blown-In Cellulose InsulationAttic insulation cost in Kanata comes down to four things: square footage, material, the depth already there and whether old fill must come out.
Most homes pay $1,200 to $3,500, and the written figure also marks which items can wait. Those are going rates across Ontario; the binding number is the written attic insulation cost we send after your photo check.
Each attic insulation cost below is per square foot of ceiling area unless stated. A cellulose top-up over sound old fill runs about $1.25 to $2.50 a square foot.
A fiberglass top-up to R-60: about $1.50 to $3 a square foot.
A full clear-out, clean and refill: about $3 to $5.50 a square foot.
Sealing the ceiling holes: a lump sum, about $500 to $1,500.
Attic hatch insulation usually costs $150 to $400.
A low attic with little room to crawl takes longer to seal and fill. Wet or soiled insulation that has to come out adds removal and cleaning. Lots of pot lights, a chimney chase or a bathroom fan vented into the attic add sealing work. Older Beaverbrook houses often need more depth, so more material goes in. The photos show why each of these raises the price.
A clean, dry attic with easy access and a decent existing layer is the cheapest to top up, because the old insulation counts toward the target. Doing air sealing, baffles and the hatch in the same visit costs less than coming back later. A rebate can also cut the final attic insulation cost; see our Ontario attic insulation rebate page.
Our home page estimator turns your ceiling area and job type into a rough attic insulation cost. The photo check then swaps that rough figure for a firm one, line by line, with pictures behind every line. The most common Kanata job is described on the blown-in cellulose insulation page.

Most Kanata attics get two or three of these done in the same visit, which saves a second trip.

Blown-in fiberglass insulation is loose glass fibre blown through a hose into the attic, where it builds a light, even layer over the ceiling. It does not absorb water and it does not settle much, which makes it a steady choice for an attic that will be left alone for decades.

Attic insulation replacement is a clear-out and a refill: the old layer is vacuumed away, the attic is cleaned, and new loose fill goes in to R-60. It is the answer when the existing material is soaked, mouldy, fouled by animals or crushed flat.

Attic air sealing plugs the holes in your top-floor ceiling where heated indoor air sneaks up under the roof. Loose fill slows heat soaking through drywall, yet air pours through an open hole as if the fill were not there.

Attic hatch insulation turns the thin panel in your closet or hallway ceiling into a sealed, insulated door. A bare hatch is often a single layer of drywall resting loosely on a wood frame.

Attic ventilation lets outside air enter at the soffits and leave near the peak, which keeps the attic close to the outdoor temperature and carries moisture away. A cold, dry attic means snow melts less from below, the roof boards stay sound and the insulation stays dry.

Bonus room insulation fixes the room that sits over an attached garage and never feels like the rest of the house. That room has a cold garage under its floor, short knee walls with attic space behind them and a sloped ceiling under the roof.

Ontario's attic insulation rebate is part of Home Renovation Savings, a joint effort of Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy. It returns money to owners who take a thin attic to R-50 or better.
